The most cost-effective way to explore a selection of Norway’s fjords, mountains, islands and waterfalls from the comfort of Hurtigruten ships is to take the classic route north. The San Juan Islands offer excellent whale watching opportunities and while you can book a special tour you can simply take the ferry from the mainland. Sail from the city of Anacortes to San Juan Island. Some daily schedules include stops at Anacortes, Lopez Island, Shaw Island, and Orcas Island. Orcas are the biggest draw, but you can spot minke and humpback whales too. Other wildlife to look out for include the Dallas Porpoise, Harbor Porpoise, and the Bald Eagle.
