Rush hour commuters have again posted images of long queues for buses outside Liverpool Street station.

The executive board of the RMT union will meet to decide the next step in the bitter series, with further work stoppages possible.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: “The fight continues and our Executive will consider the next steps in the campaign.

“We remain available for discussions with those able to offer a concrete solution, rather than the hollow words we’ve heard from the mayor and his senior officials.”

Andy Lord, TfL Chief Operating Officer, said: “We have not proposed any changes to pensions or conditions and no one has lost or will lose their job as a result of the proposals we have put out, so this action is totally unnecessary.

“We know our customers deserve better than this ongoing disruption and that is why we are urging the RMT to speak to us so we can find a solution to this dispute which has already damaged London’s recovery from the pandemic.”

Strikes ‘bring misery to many Londoners’ – No 10

Downing Street is urging both sides of the tube strike to “come around the table” to resolve the issues at hand.

Boris Johnson’s official spokesman said: “I think these ongoing strikes are clearly bringing misery to many Londoners and we would like both sides to come around the table and put an end to this disruptive action.

“It’s a blow to businesses as they recover from Covid restrictions and it’s preventing people from getting to work.”

London MP Nickie Aiken: Tube strike puts women and girls at ‘unnecessary risk’

Nickie Aiken, MP for the City of London and Westminster, said she had concerns about women’s safety because of the Tube strike.

In a statement posted to Twitter, Ms Aiken said: “We all know how important it is for women and girls to have a safe way home, especially late at night.

“The subway and the night subway are vital for women and girls to travel home safely and without the lines running creates an unnecessary risk for those returning after a night out with their friends or in the Night economy workers, 60 percent of whom are women.”

Commuters: Strike means taking mum to hospital is ‘complete nightmare’

One woman has complained about how strike action in London has made taking her mother to hospital a “complete nightmare”.

Denise Williams, 46, from east London, who works in retail, told the PA news agency while waiting for a bus in King’s Cross: “My mum – Doris – is in her 90s and had a bad fall last week.

“I had to take her to hospital appointments three times a week. Normally the ride isn’t that bad, but today’s ride was an absolute nightmare.

“Four buses didn’t stop. Some weren’t even occupied and I was traveling with an elderly lady. Where’s the compassion?

“People crowded onto the bus and almost hit my mother, who is still recovering.”
