Londoners invited to vote on neighborhood ideas

The City of London is asking residents to vote on a variety of potential projects they would like to see realized in their neighbourhood.

City officials have unveiled the 2022 Neighborhood Decision Making Program, filled with lists of ideas aimed at improving local neighborhoods that Londoners can have a say in. This year, 230 ideas were submitted by residents. Of these, 79 were converted into project proposals.

“From playground upgrades to murals and community parties to outdoor exercise equipment, Londoners submitted a variety of ideas to improve their neighborhoods,” said Karen Oldham, neighborhood development manager.

Londoners of all ages can vote for up to three ideas in Central, North East, North West, South East or South West London.

“Residents, whether they are new to London or too young to vote in a general election, are encouraged to cast their vote to determine how part of the council budget is spent,” Oldham said.

Some ideas include planting shade trees near playgrounds in north-west London, exercise equipment in parks in north-east London, accessible swings in central London, a community pantry in south-west London, and agility equipment and improvements at Pottersburg dog park in south-east London.

Voting starts on June 18th and runs until June 25th. Residents can vote in a variety of ways, either online or in person at a local public library branch, or by calling 519-661-8410. Voting in person or by telephone is only possible on June 25 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m

A full list of ideas and places to vote online can be found on the city’s website.
