Arsenal have confirmed that French Under-21 midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has joined Hertha Berlin on a one-year loan.

“The French Under-21 international has made 82 appearances for us since arriving from French side from Lorient in the summer of 2018,” read the Arsenal website.

“Matteo started his career at the Paris Saint-Germain academy before joining Lorient. He went straight into our first team when he joined us, with just three players making more appearances than Matteo in his debut 2018/19 season.

Guendouzi has been largely a peripheral figure in the Emirates for a fiery 2-1 loss to Brighton in June when he appeared to grab Brighton striker Neal Maupay’s throat.

Arsenal boss Arteta expected the France Under-21 international to apologize for his conduct, but failing to do so the former Lorient player has been banned from the squad .

The midfielder referred to the absence in a tweet announcing his decision, saying:

Looking forward to being back on the pitch and defending the colors of Hertha Berlin.
