Pep Guardiola gives Mikel Arteta a chance to secure Arsenal’s dream double transfer from Man City – Bailey Keogh

Arsenal’s recently reported interest in Raheem Sterling means Mikel Arteta could land a double deal with Manchester City at a bargain price. The Gunners have also been heavily associated with Gabriel Jesus.

According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Arteta wants Sterling to join Arsenal this summer. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Gunners are hot on Jesus’ heels.

Both players’ contracts expire at Manchester City at the end of the 2022/2023 season. In order to avoid losing both players on a free transfer, City could desperately try to reach both players in the summer, hoping to raise some money, which is a problem Arteta should definitely take advantage of.

With the likely departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah, it is imperative that Arsenal sign several forwards over the summer as their contracts expire at the end of the season. A deal for Sterling would certainly be favorable as Arteta has a good understanding of the player.

Sterling will also have a rough idea of how the Spaniard wants to set up his team and what he expects from his players. And according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in October last year, that could be Arteta’s thinking.

“It’s true Arsenal would love to have him. Mikel Arteta is in love, he is convinced that he would be perfect. Man City want more than £50m.”

The 26-year-old has scored more than 100 goals in his six-year career with Man City and played a key role in their recent Premier League title success. This is similar to Jesus’ ability to play in any position in attack, making his versatility an attractive trait for the Gunners.

Arteta and the Brazil international have worked together during the Spaniard’s three-year tenure as one of Guardiola’s coaching staff. It’s another incentive to secure his signature and improve the forward line ahead of next season.

During Jesu’s time at Arteta, the Brazilian played 6931 minutes and scored 55 goals. That meant his goals per 90 minutes averaged 0.71. That tally is better than when Arteta left City because without the Spaniard, Jesus has played 6850 minutes and scored 39 goals, meaning he averaged 0.51 goals per game.

Jesus had a 39% goal improvement when Arteta coached him and it’s certainly a relationship the pair could reignite if the Brazilian decides to join the Gunners at the end of the season. The signing of Jesus would certainly be an excellent acquisition for the Gunners.

Sterling and Jesus have both shown quality in the Premier League in recent seasons. Signing both players in a bargain deal will surely help boost Arteta’s attack.
