Process and control today | New edgeController from ifm ensures flexible digitization

The new edgeController features a high-resolution, very bright 12.3-inch color touchscreen display supported by a powerful 64-bit 1.2 GHz quad-core processor that operates in ambient temperatures of up to 60 °C full performance. Another important advantage is that it can be used in almost all industrial applications without additional protection as it has a robust die-cast aluminum housing with IP65 protection.

Real-time plug-and-play access to plant or machine I/O data is supported over industrial Ethernet protocols such as EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP. Control functions are programmed with CODESYS V3.5 or the device can be used as a platform for predefined functions, so no programming is required. A real-time clock with battery backup is integrated and the device meets the requirements of BSI and IEC 62443-4-2 to maximize data security.

The edgeController offers two USB and two Ethernet interfaces for easy connection. The Ethernet interfaces support the 10Base-T and 100Base-TX transmission standards with the TCP/IP, TCP/IP JSON, UDP and HTTP protocols, while the USB interfaces support the USB 2.0 standard with data transfer rates of up to 480 Mbit/s.
