London, ON, October 29, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Revera, a senior senior living owner, operator, developer and investor, officially opened its newly refurbished Elmwood Place long-term care home in London, Ontario in a grand opening ceremony this morning.

This is the company’s first long-term care project to open in Ontario. New Elmwood Place welcomed residents, employees, and local dignitaries for a ribbon cut ceremony and guided tour.

“The opening of Elmwood Place is a major milestone in Revera’s journey to renovate all of our aging long-term care homes. It is right to invest in renovating older infrastructure, ”said Thomas G. Wellner, President and CEO of Revera. “The new design standards applied here increase the safety, comfort and care of the residents, create a better working environment for the staff and contribute to meeting the increasingly complex needs of today’s and future generations of senior citizens.”

With 50 additional bed licenses granted by the Department of Long-Term Care, the new home will now accommodate 128 residents, providing better access to much-needed long-term care facilities for older adults in the greater London area.

“Our government is aligning Ontario’s long-term care system so that every resident can experience the best quality of life possible, supported by safe, high-quality care,” said the Hon. Rod Phillips, Minister for Long-Term Care. “Building modern homes like the new Elmwood Place is an important part of our plan. The home offers 128 urgently needed beds to senior citizens in the London area. “

Features of the redeveloped Elmwood Place

The new Elmwood Place at 3400 Morgan Avenue welcomed its first residents on September 27th. The beautiful new home has been built to the latest design standards and includes many evidence-based features designed to enhance the living experience, including:

  • A new layout with more privacy for the residents – 60 percent of the rooms are single rooms with their own washroom, the remaining 40 percent are double apartments with a shared entrance hall and washroom, but private sleeping areas.

  • Oversized windows that allow for more natural light, a calming color palette, more expansive hallways, and more space for amenities.

  • Better airflow and temperature control in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

  • Energy efficient and equipped with the latest digital technology to help families and residents stay connected, the latest in mobile medical charts and visitor WiFi.

  • Special lighting that adapts to the outside lighting, path lighting to the suite door and bathroom area to prevent falls.

  • Contactless taps in all residents’ washrooms to improve infection prevention and control (IPAC).

  • Dementia-friendly, secure residential area and beautifully designed outdoor area.

“Elmwood Place is divided into four ‘neighborhoods’ of 32 people, each with its own balcony and dining room, so each area feels like a smaller community within the larger house,” said Wendy Gilmour, Senior Vice President. Long Term Care, Rever. “The residents and staff were committed throughout the process and even chose the names of the four neighborhoods – Springbank Park and East Park on the first floor, and Gibbons Park and Victoria Park on the second floor – to make them feel even more at home. ”
