Sir Alex Ferguson is keeping a close eye on Jesse Lingard following his exit from Manchester United.

Lingard left Old Trafford in the January transfer window to join West Ham on loan for the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign.

The England international is now working with the former United director Moyes David while he proposes to start his career with the Hammers.

Lingard came through the youth ranks at United and previously played under Ferguson and Moyes.

The 28-year-old found his first-team chances limited under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, resulting in his departure.

Lingard scored twice on his West Ham debut – a 3-1 win at Aston Villa – and also featured in the goalless draw with Fulham.

Moyes revealed that Sir Alex asked for news of Lingard during a recent conversation.

“He (Lingard) is only here for the short term but I’ve already spoken with Sir Alex, who has asked me to pass the best of himself on to Jesse,” Moyes said. Sky sports. “He mentioned that he was thinking of him because Sir Alex had had him as a boy at Old Trafford.

“It just shows the interest Sir Alex has in all the young players he had, all of his teams and all of his clubs, he shows a great interest in them and he was happy that Jesse got off to a good start.”

Moyes believes Lingard will bring a winning mentality to West Ham, adding: “I’m referring to my time at Everton when I brought in Phil Neville and Tim Howard.

“Phil Neville was great for his mentality and what he brought, it really gave us another advantage. Him as a player also gave us something else. I hope Jesse will do the same.”
