The York City Knights hooker joins the London Broncos permanently

YORK City Knights’ hooker Sam Davis has signed a permanent contract with the London Broncos after joining Capital Club.

Davis joined York from London in the off-season and played eight times for the Knights, scoring one try.

York head coach James Ford later admitted he was struggling to “make the impact on Sam that I wanted,” and Davis returned to the Broncos in June on loan until the end of the 2022 season.

The 23-year-old will remain in London, for whom he has played 13 times this year, and helped Mike Eccles’ side to seven wins in their last 13 games as they finished 11th and stayed 10 points from relegation .

“Overall this year has been disappointing, but beating some teams that made the playoffs late in the season shows how it’s possible to turn things around,” Davis said.

“We all want to fight for the playoffs next season and get the Broncos back to the club we all know can be.

“Mike is a great team leader and motivator who brings the whole team on board with a vision that excites me.

“Having a coach like Mike is good for the team and my personal development. I’m happy to be back and can’t wait to get going again.”

Eccles said: “We were delighted to have Sam back on loan from York this summer and his efforts have been key in enabling our results to turn the tide.

“Sam’s qualities on the pitch are outstanding and the club means a lot to him personally.

“He’s a tough and brave player who will lead from the front and for me is everything I could ask for in a player down the middle.

“Even off the field, he is a great supporter of his teammates and, with his selfless character, contributes positively to the cohesion and morale of the team in all situations.”
