TSW Training and Aspen Waite announce a partnership to provide sustainable business consulting and IEMA environmental sustainability training.

Core items:

  • Aspen Waite will provide sustainable business consulting through the Sustain Project and will outsource IEMA environmental sustainability training to its preferred training partner, TSW Training
  • SMEs in large supply chains or tenders for large contracts need to demonstrate their green transition, but there is no legislation forcing them to do so. IEMA certification demonstrates a commitment to low emissions and ensures business resilience, productivity and growth.
  • TSW Training has been providing technical, health and safety and manufacturing training to companies in Wales and across the UK for 56 years

On February 1, 2022, TSW Training and Aspen Waite announced a partnership to provide sustainable business consulting and IEMA environmental sustainability training through the Sustain Project.

Sustain is a new service that brings SMEs environmental policies and environmental certifications up to best practice standards.

Sustain is an outsourced, multidisciplinary team for SMEs that helps them move profitably to net zero and gain a competitive advantage. TSW Training will provide training expertise through four IEMA accredited courses.

Development of critical skills for manufacturing, engineering, and health and safety

TSW Training is a training and education provider working with both individuals and brands across the UK. Founded in 1966, the company specializes in continuous professional development in engineering, manufacturing, and health and safety, with industry-led trainers at the forefront of each training program.

IEMA – a professional body for everyone working in the environment and sustainability field – is their latest offering of accredited qualifications. The four environmental courses offered provide skills and knowledge that drive sustainable professions and ensure business resilience, productivity and growth.

The four courses will put companies on the right track to reach net zero and become preferred suppliers for major customers who are required to report their carbon footprint.

“Now is the right time to invest in green credentials to sustain your business and create new opportunities,” explains Gareth Harris, Head of Corporate Relations at TSW Training.

“When small and medium-sized companies are part of a supply chain or bid for large contracts, they will soon be asked to demonstrate the green transition if they are not already. We want every business in Wales to be aware of the critical industry changes ahead and have access to training that improves their resilience, productivity and mobility.”

To meet Carbon Neutral 2050 and reduce emissions by 75% by 2035, major PLCs are auditing their environmental impact to measure and control carbon surpluses.

From April 6, 2022, more than 1,300 of the largest UK registered companies will be required to disclose climate-related financial information.

Conversely, SMEs are only asked to sign a self-commitment through the UK Business Climate Hub. There is no legislation obliging SMEs to take specific measures in relation to their greenhouse gas emissions. Last year there were 207,000 private sector companies in Wales alone, but in January 2022 just 2,678 companies across the UK have signed up for the Business Climate Change Hub.

With no legislation mandating emission reduction measures, few SMEs realize that commercial ties are being cut due to a lack of green credentials or a carbon neutral strategy.

For example, in September 2021, Tesco announced that 90% of the retailer’s total emissions come from its supply chain and 100 of its largest suppliers have reduced their manufacturing emissions by 20%. To measure its footprint, it contacted its suppliers and asked for support in transitioning to a low-carbon economy.[2]

Director Aspen Waite in Wales, David Scheeres explains:

“The SME sector accounts for 60% of UK PLC’s workforce and 50% of turnover. SMEs are big emitters of greenhouse gases, but they fly under the radar. There is no legislation forcing them to review their processes and policies, which would bring their GHG emissions under control and make them an attractive partner for verified SPS.

“Here, SMEs that understand the long-term implications of the transition to sustainable operations have an opportunity to increase their attractiveness to larger organizations that are increasingly mindful of their supply chain’s sustainability credentials. Third-party validation becomes necessary to confirm the integrity of a sustainability statement. This is how TSW Training and Aspen Waite can help.”

Helping SMEs to measure, control and report their greenhouse gas emissions

The partnership between TSW Training and Aspen Waite will provide SMEs with a support package that not only identifies where measures can be applied but also enhances internal capabilities to maintain green environmental standards.

“Most SMEs are unaware that environmental training will protect their business interests in the years to come and create many more growth opportunities,” says Harris.

“With the right support and expertise from projects such as Sustain and IEMA training courses, SMEs in Wales can measure, monitor and report on their carbon footprint, protecting their interests as we meet the overarching net zero 2035 and 2035 deadlines 2050 approaching. ”
