Two teenage boys were stabbed to death in London within a few hours on Monday evening, the Metropolitan Police said.

A 15-year-old died after a knife stab Greenwich around 5 p.m. and a 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after being stabbed to death just before midnight in Lambeth.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said he was “heartbroken and appalled” at the deaths.

Police were called to Woolwich New Road in Greenwich at 5:23 p.m. after violence broke out in a busy area near Woolwich Arsenal station.

They found a 15-year-old boy with stab wounds. Pictures on social media showed members of the public holding up sheets for privacy as rescue workers tried to save the boy’s life, but he died on the scene about half an hour later.

Another 15-year-old, who later hospitalized himself with a knife wound, was arrested on suspicion of murdering the other boy.

In Lambeth, a 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene after he was found injured at around 11:45 p.m. on a property on Oval Place. There have been no arrests.

A tarpaulin covered a stairwell in Elworth House, a block of flats just off the main Clapham Road.

In honor of the boy, the citizens laid flowers and personal messages at the crime scene.

The cards say “shine bright” and “love you forever… my bro”.

A 25-year-old Elworth House resident said, “I saw this little boy grow up.

“He was a good boy … he had his own way of thinking, you know.

Superintendent Petra Lazar said of the Greenwich incident: “It is shocking and extremely sad that a teenager has lost his life as a result of a knife crime.

“My thoughts are currently with the family of the deceased boy.

“This incident will understandably cause concern for local residents, and I want to assure them that my officers are doing whatever they can to assist the murder detectives.

“In the next few days, more patrols will be carried out in the area.”

In response to news of the two stabbing, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “I am heartbroken and appalled at the death of two teenagers in our city.

“Any loss of life leaves a family and community devastated.

“I am determined to do everything in my power to support the police and our communities to put an end to these terrible crimes and to protect our young people.”
