Thousands of runners will gather in Hertfordshire on Sunday when Hatfield Park hosts the Vitality London 10,000 Run and Vitality Mile.

Vitality London 10,000 was originally scheduled to take place in central London on the bank holiday weekend in late May, but was canceled on March 31st due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 10km run will now take place on Sunday, July 11th, on the grounds of Hatfield House.

The mass run, organized by London Marathon Events (LME), will include two 10k events in the morning – one with a socially distant start and a mass start with no social distancing measures.

From 9 a.m., non-socially distant runners start in waves of 1,000 in a carefully planned start process.

This race will be followed by socially distant runners from 10.45 a.m. The participants of this run start in pairs every two seconds.

The afternoon Vitality Mile at Hatfield Park includes a series of family-friendly 1-mile races through the leafy park.

Nine days later, the LME is organizing the Standard Chartered Great City Race on closed streets in the City of London.

Hugh Brasher, LME Event Director, said: “These events in Hatfield Park and on the streets of London are a very special moment and cause for celebration.

“All research has shown the likelihood of getting COVID-19 outdoors is negligible, and the entire industry has worked together to bring parkruns and events back safely.

“It seems like an eternity since we hosted our mass runners. We have all missed the excitement, thrill and energy these events provide and we have seen people run together and inspire one another.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to Hatfield Park and the streets of London – it is wonderful to be back and thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this possible.”

Vitality London 10,000 is a tightly controlled event and all attendees and spectators are encouraged to take a lateral flow test today (Saturday 10 July) the day before the event.
